ある消防団の男性は、避難所で生活しながら昼間は遺体を探していた。泥に埋もれた遺体を見つけるのは非常に難しい。ところが、自衛隊や消防団が必死に探しても見つからなかった遺体が、家族が探しに来ると見つかることがあるという。家族が泥の中から遺体を見つける。何度も捜索したが見つけることができなかった場所なのに、家族が来ると見つかる。そんな体験を何度もしたと語ってくれた。

　安置所でも遺体は家族に反応する。亡くなってから何日も経った遺体でも、肉親がその遺体を見つけたその瞬間に、鼻血を出したり顔に赤みがさしたりするという。
